After all these months of searching for every scrap of news and evaluating every rumor about the next Black Ops game, it’s finally time for some answers. One answer we do have is that Black Ops 2 really is going to be the next Treyarch Call of Duty game. What are all the questions we have yet to answer? We have no idea when the game will take place. Will it follow directly from its predecessor or will it take place sometime in our own future? We also don’t know whether the new multiplayer modes we’ve heard rumors about are real. And maybe the biggest question of all is whether the zombies are making a comeback.
The great news is that we’re probably going to get answers to some of our questions soon. And we’re likely to also generate a lot of new questions based off of what we see on May 1st! What’s happening on May 1st? The official reveal will be airing on TNT during the basketball playoffs. This is your chance to tune in and find out more about Black Ops 2.
The game isn’t due out until November 13th, a date we’ve seen confirmed by posters, Target pre-order cards and most recently a logo which was leaked to the site Gaming Everything and which looks official. We also saw another confirmation of the release date in the form of the word “Eclipse,” which graced some official posters. November 13th is the date for a total eclipse of the sun. While some fans originally believed that “Eclipse” was going to be the name of the new game, we now know that it refers only—or mostly—to the release date. There could be more to it than that though! Is Black Ops II going to eclipse its predecessor and the other games in the Call of Duty franchise? We think there’s a pretty good chance that it will. This game has the potential to be the best in the series to date.

It’s only the end of April and already a lot of gamers are hearing the call of duty (pun very intended). All we have to do is survive the wait till this November and we’ll finally get to experience the sequel to the original Black Ops game from Treyarch! There are still a lot of mysteries regarding the new game, but here is a quick overview of what we know to date.
The game is actually going to be called “Black Ops II” (with the Roman numeral), not “Eclipse” as some people speculated. The reason for the “Eclipse” marketing on posters is that the day the game is slated for release, November 13th, is also the date for a total eclipse of the sun. The name of the game has been confirmed a couple of times now. First we saw it on Target’s pre-order cards, and now we’ve seen it on a logo which was leaked to the gaming magazine Gaming Everything. The logo features the image of a soldier along with the title “Call of Duty Black Ops II.”
Aside from that, what we have is mostly a lot of speculation. Will the next Black Ops game take place immediately following the end of the previous game? Or will Black Ops II take place sometime in the near future? What new perks, unlocks, and game modes will we see in multiplayer? Will the game really include an Escort mode? Will we really be able to use four knives at once? And, most importantly, are the zombies coming back?
These are the questions, and we will hopefully have a few of the answers in just a couple of days. On May 1st the official Black Ops II reveal is going to air on TNT during the basketball playoffs. So tune in for answers to all of your Black Ops questions!
Call of Duty Multiplayer Features Revealed?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s official reveal date is set for May 1st, but the most recent leak published on rumor site Charlie Intel has unveiled a number of multiplayer features which may very well be for real, considering their level of detail—though we have our doubts owing mostly to poor grammar and peculiar abilities, as you’ll read below. While GamesBeat ezine has contacted Activision to try and confirm whether the rumors have any foundation, as of right now there is no certainty either way.
The rumors concern unlockable perks and equipable upgrades. The perks and upgrades apply only to multiplayer mode and become available as players accumulate experience points. As an example, take a player who is taking on the role of a sniper. You may unlock a perk which allows you to cause more substantial damage with your shots. Or perhaps you unlock a perk which grants you temporary invisibility.
These make sense, but some of the perks described by the site seem a bit more dubious. For example, this bit about knives. The first perk the site describes, “Bladesman,” states that you can be carrying two knives in each hand (yep, four knives), making you “twice as fast.” This idea seems nebulous and unrealistic, and the wording in the article isn’t great either—indeed, the descriptions of the perks aren’t what you’d call grammatical.
Another perk package called “Escape Artist,” includes a number of capabilities which no one would ever realistically turn off, so they don’t seem too viable to us. The grammar is, once again, abominable. For example, here is one ability, described in the words which appear on the original page: “Focus: Be able to shoot while sprinting, even at the deduction of accuracy.” It’s hard to tell whether that means the sprinting would affect your aim or not from that wording! And if didn’t, wouldn’t everyone use it all the time?
The site also describes three different game modes. In the first supposed mode, “Escort,” you escort a player “across three flags” to achieve victory. If the player is killed by the enemy team, they win. The wording sounds ridiculous, though we have heard a rumor about an escort mode, so this one probably has a grain of truth. In “Split Spawn,” players spawn fro a helicopter and drop down to the ground to try and capture one central flag. Capturing the flag or killing all opposing players results in a win. You can stop players from respawning by shooting down their helicopter. In “Equalizer,” … well, it’s almost impossible to dissect the description on the site. The game seems to involve randomly switching teams upon death and competing for a power plant which confers perks. We’ll just excerpt it here and you can try and figure out what it means:
“Equalizer ~ A game mode in which players are switched to the enemy team upon death. Players will compete for a flag, which when owned, open up a power plant to allow the player to customize their class in game, get new weapons, and put on a juggernaut suit for their team only. When there are 2 players left on a team, they are granted with the power plant automatically, and pointstreaks up to a 5 point requirement can also be obtained. If either of the two players die, they will remain on their own team. The team with the most converts (kills) at the end will win. If tied, whoever currently owns the power plant will win.”
So what’s our interpretation of all these supposed game modes and perks? We think with all those dubious grammar errors and unclear prose, whoever posted these rumors didn’t know what they were talking about—even if there is a grain of truth at the center of it all, which there very well may well be. Take these as cautious hints of possibilities only—and tune into the official reveal on May 1st on TNT during the basketball playoffs!
Black Ops 2 Is Coming to a Target Near You

We’ve waited and waited for the next Black Ops game, the second Treyarch Call of Duty game to be granted a proper two-year development cycle. At long last, that wait is over. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is coming to a Target near you. Recent photographs of the pre-release cards confirm that the release date for the game is November 13th, 2012. While we already knew that (how could you miss it amid all those hints we’ve seen Activision dropping lately?), it’s always great to see another confirmation.
The pre-order cards do say the game release date is subject to change, but that’s just standard procedure for a product like this. We’re pretty sure that Activision isn’t going to miss the big day. November the 13th is a rare total eclipse of the sun, and as such it’s become a marketing tool for Activision. It’s a memorable date, and its implications are that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be an equally rare and memorable game. Since Call of Duty games come out each year, it can be tough not getting too repetitious. Activision’s decision to release in conjunction with the eclipse implies that this may be a singular addition to the franchise. The excitement will rise to a new peak on May 1st. Tune into TNT to watch the official Black Ops 2 reveal during the basketball playoffs and experience a taste of what’s to come!
FPS Russia Hints at Black Ops 2 Setting?

While there has been a lot of anticipation that the next Call of Duty: Black Ops game will start off right where the original Black Ops game left off, now we’re starting to question whether that’s true thanks to a video uploaded by YouTube star FPS Russia.
The video shows a prototype of a remote control attack drone which has been fitted with explosive ammunition and which is controlled by a tablet computer. In the video, the presenter says, “The technology in this baby isn't going to be out there for at least another decade. Looks like the future's going to be fun. But if you can't wait another 15 years my friends are telling me that this baby might just be in the next Call of Duty game, which would be the sh*t.”
What’s really interesting isn’t the video presenter’s comments but the fact that they appear to have been confirmed by Treyarch and Activision. The main official page for Call of Duty includes an image of weapon which links directly to the FPS Russia video. While this may not be significant, it seems almost impossible that it wouldn’t be—after all, how many people talk about Call of Duty in their YouTube videos? Why give special attention to this one unless there really is a solid connection between the prototype technology in the footage and the Black Ops sequel?
Originally we believed that the game would probably take place during the 1980s, following directly off of its predecessor. We figured we’d keep going with the Cold War theme. Since this technology doesn’t exist now except in prototype form, we can be pretty sure that it didn’t exist then, so it is now looking more likely that the game will take place sometime in the near future, perhaps in the next ten to fifteen years. While there was still plenty of depth to plumb with the Cold War, the nice thing about the future is that it is open ended, and there are fewer concerns with realism and accuracy. So we can definitely see where either timeframe could be fun to explore. The COD website put up a splash screen the other day promoting a reveal of the next game in just a few days on May 1st. To watch the reveal, gamers will want to tune into the basketball playoffs on TNT. This should answer our question with more certainty!
